A proposal around electronic meetings sparked a heated debate in Kitimat Council last night.
Covid restrictions have given us all a taste of how advantageous it can be to meet online from time to time rather than in person.
Like many other councils, that led Kitimat’s group to make a few bylaw tweaks to allow the occasional digital appearance at meetings.
Initially, the proposal allowed for 4 virtual appearances per year for each councilor.
But after Councilor Gibson proposed a cap of 10, a lengthy discussion ensued.
After all was said and done, Council decided to cap digital appearances at 7, unless otherwise approved by the Mayor.
In addition, the bylaw was amended to also include committee of the whole meetings.
