Refreshed funding will allow the Kitimat Fire Department to continue to educate the community on fire safety.
Yesterday, Council approved an application to allow the continuation of FireSmart activities in Kitimat.
For years, FireSmart programs have worked to educate residents on the risks and responsibilities associated with living in a fire-dependent ecosystem.
For Kitimat, that has developed in to a program of hiring and educating summer students to in turn educate the public.
This year that program will be continued, with three summer students planned to be accepted.
In addition, like many other communities, the Department will get to work on developing a new Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan in 2021.
