Current budget proposals would see Terrace residents face a ten year record high tax increase in 2022.
Council has decided to put the 5.52 percent property tax increase proposed at tonight’s budget meeting forward for public consultation.
The jump, the largest in the past ten years, would cover an 865 thousand dollar expense increase.
The largest increases come from staffing needs at various municipal services.
Additional staffing positions were requested to fill clerk roles with the RCMP and City services, but would have led to a further 1.4 percent increase.
Some debate was held over whether or not to include a perceived health and safety position, but Council decided against it.
The tax number must now go through public consultation before final approval.
