Thanks in part to the recent success of their Forestry Innovation Centre, Quesnel has caught the eye of forestry projects both Federal and Provincial.
Since Covid put an end to their in-person consultations, the Centre has become the centre of the City’s Forestry Think Tank project.
The efforts of the project have lead to Quesnel being selected as a pilot district for a forestry rehabilitation plan.
That plan would be a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Forests and First Nations governments, and would examine the City’s approach to landscape leveling.
In addition, Quesnel has been selected as the provincial hub for Silva21, a five year federal research project which aims to provide tools needed to direct and manage the forestry industry.
Quesnel’s forestry think Tank Process was launched in 2018, as a result of unrest following the disastrous 2017 wildfire season.
