Most known for her role as Chief Commissioner of the National Inquiry in to Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women, renowned Indigenous scholar Marion Buller is taking on a new role in Victoria.
Buller has been named as the 12th Chancellor on the University of Victoria, returning to the school where she completed her law degree.
It will be a three year term for the Indigenous Rights advocate, which is slated to begin on January 1st.
In 1994, Buller became the first First Nations woman to be appointed as a judge in BC, and eventually found what is now known as the Indigenous Courts.
Current Chancellor, Shelagh Rogers will finish her second term in the role at the end of this year.
