A re-introduced program will make it easier for Métis residents in BC aged 60 or older to upgrade their homes.
Known as the Ma Niki Home Renovation Program, and distributed by the Métis Nation of BC, the grant program is funded by the Métis-Canada-Housing Sub-Accord.
Under the program, Métis citizens aged 60 and older will be able to apply for up to 20 thousand dollars in non-repayable grant funding to improve the condition of their homes.
Funding comes with the caveat that applicants must retain ownership of the home for at least 5 years after receipt of the funds.
In order to qualify you must be: an MNBC citizen living in BC for at least one year, who owns their home and makes less than 36 thousand dollars per year.
Couples can also qualify with an income of under 66 thousand, so long as both meet all other criteria.
In some cases, the age qualifier may be waived for immediate emergency repairs.
