WorkSafe B-C has sent out a statement saying that two companies as well as two supervisors have gotten big time fines after they plead guilty in court to multiple charges for their roles in the tragic death of a bridge construction worker.
The worker, who was from Fort St John and a dad to three girls, was on the bridge just North of that community in March of 2019, when he fell off the bridge and died because there were no safety harnesses available on the bridge and their wasn’t any fall prevention measures either.
The main contractor of the bridge, Yoho Resources, and the victim’s employer, Great Northern Bridgeworks, had to be in provincial court back on Friday in Fort St John, and both companies got fined the amount of 70-thousand dollars for the incident.
As for the two individuals who got fined, bridge foreman Randolph Kosick got a fine of 85-hundred dollars, and the site supervisor Brian Baker received a 75-hundred dollar fine.
An official from WorkSafe B-C, Al Johnson, said that these guilty verdicts are proof that when employers don’t protect their employees, they will suffer serious consequences.
