A project aimed at providing secure, safe, and reliable internet roaming access to students across Canada is partnering with the City of Terrace.
Eduroam is a service provided by BCNet looking to bridge the gap between internet access for students in Canada and create a virtual campus.
Available in over 150 locations in BC, and 430 in Canada, the service connects students with quality internet roaming by giving them access to their school’s network from a number of approved hotspots.
For Terrace, proposed access points include the Sportsplex and pool, library, city hall, Mills Memorial Hospital, and more.
Only students, faculty, and staff members can access the network and must be verified to do so, improving cyber and personal security for students.
In addition, students will be able to use these hotspots to access quality internet regardless of their access to WiFi and data.
So far, the service is mostly used by post-secondary institutions, such as UBC, UNBC, the College of New Caledonia, and more.
