50 Days after the establishment of their Coyote Camp, the Gidimt’en clan have served Coastal GasLink employees an eviction notice.
It mirrors an eviction order initially given by the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs back in January of 2020.
Land defenders established the Camp as a means of blocking CGL crews from drilling underneath the Wedzin Kwa, or Morice River as they continue to build their pipeline.
This morning, the Band gave CGL employees 8 hours to evacuate the worksite, which expired at 1:00 this afternoon.
According to a CGL release from this afternoon, three new Gidimt’en blockades have been set up along the public service road, blocking exits and access to two worker lodges.
In the same release, CGL says that project vehicles and equipment in the area have also been vandalized.
They say they fear for the safety of the more than 500 workers at the camps, who may soon run short on supplies.
While CGL maintains the legality of their Supreme Court Injunction, the Wet’suwet’en say their prior, informed, consent to work on their territory was never given.
