This weekend, members of the Gidimt’en clan set up further blockades along the Wedzin Kwa after issuing Coastal GasLink an eviction notice.
Today, BC’s Public Safety Minister, Mike Farnworth, chastised the move, calling for the peaceful removal of the blockade and a de-escalation of the on-going confrontations.
In a release from this morning, Farnworth called the blockade and emergency risk for more than 500 workers.
Yesterday, CGL said two newly erected blockades could result in supply chains running out for workers, and cuts off access to the site.
Members of the Gidimt’en clan say they are enforcing a previous eviction notice issued by the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs last year.
CGL has negotiated and gotten permission from all the Elected Councils along the pipeline route, but the Hereditary Chiefs say they have been ignored.
