A group of concerned Smithers residents are planning a rally tomorrow to address concerns over the province’s handling of Old Growth Logging deferrals.
At the beginning of the month, the province announced their plan for a plan to stem the over-logging of Old Growth forests in BC.
That plan saw them highlight certain areas as proposed deferral areas, while giving First Nations just 30 days to send in input.
However, the plan featured inadequate, if any, consultation with smaller northern communities, which are often impacted the most.
As a result, members of the Smithers community have become concerned over the possibly devastating repercussions.
Tomorrow, concerned citizens will be meeting at 10:00 in the morning by the Goat Statue out front of McDonalds, and beginning their procession between 11:00 and 1:00.
