Seabridge Gold has received a 2 year extension on its KSM project’s Environmental Assessment Certificate.
Originally set to expire in July of 2024, the province has granted the extension to 2026 due to the impacts of Covid protection measures on their work.
Under the Environmental Assessment Act, a project must be “substantially started” by the time its Certificate expires.
That means an adequate amount of physical work, as well as capital spending on long term infrastructure must be complete.
Seabridge says that it plans to intensify work at the Stewart-area mine beginning next year, which should put them well ahead of the new deadline.
Leadership from the Nisga’a and Tahltan Nations, as well as the Gitxsan Hereditary Chiefs assisted in facilitating the extension request.
