A 70-unit affordable housing project in Prince Rupert is now set to go ahead, despite public opinion being divided.
Proposed over a year ago by the Lax Kw’alaams WAAP Housing society, the 11th Avenue project finally has everything it needs to go ahead.
Last night, Council members gave final approval to a zoning amendment which had previously sparked two days of public consultation.
Residents were torn on the project, bringing forward concerns over population density, traffic impacts, loss of green land, and appearances.
But Council was ultimately pleased with plans by the developer to mitigate the issues brought up by residents.
Construction is now expected to begin next Spring on the six story housing complex.
