Community members in Kitwanga have spent the day standing in solidarity with Gidimt’en land defenders.
Last week, RCMP began a militarized enforcement of their pipeline injunction on Wet’suwet’en territory, leading to nearly 30 arrests.
Supporters in Kitwanga have been gathering at the CN train tracks in town since early this morning in a show of solidarity.
Those at the tracks plan to remain at least in to the evening, and are meeting at the Highway 37 North junction near the community hall.
They also plan to continue to meet for similar solidarity events moving forward, though a schedule is not yet finalized.
Similar to other solidarity gatherings across the country, the supporters on site are calling for a peaceful resolution which supports Indigenous Rights and Identity.
