BC’s Indigenous Affairs Minister says it is unfair to blame the provincial government for the RCMP’s actions on Wet’suwet’en territory.
Minister Murray Rankin says that it is not the job of the provincial government to direct the police, and that it shouldn’t be.
He says the province did not bring about the injunction, but rather that it was sought by Coastal GasLink, and that the RCMP decided how to enact it.
Green MLA Adam Olsen says the NDP are unwilling to change racist government structures, despite their stated commitment to reconciliation.
He also accused them of exploiting division within communities created by the Indian act.
But Rankin says that such accusations are also unfair, that the Federal government created said Act, and that his government is trying to unify the nation.
