A partnership program which seeks to help people find and access mental health services in Houston is expanding to Granisle.
Operating for more than a year, the program is made possible thanks to a partnership between the RCMP and Northern Health.
Said program sees one officer and one registered psychiatric nurse sent to residents’ homes to check on their well-being and mental health.
In addition, they help to educate residents on what programs and services are available to help them, and how to access useful information.
The Houston program sees the pair visit homes by appointment, based on a referral system, and will be mirrored in Granisle.
Program operators say that eventual expansion in to Granisle has been part of the plan from the beginning, and the success of the pilot program made the timing right.
