A number of, previously withheld, Residential School records will be released to the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation in the coming days.
In October, Ottawa faced criticism after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said his government had turned over all relevant records.
According to the Centre, that was not the case as they were still missing a number of important documents, including some school narratives.
Now, newly appointed Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Marc Miller says 8 such records, previously withheld, records will be turned over within 30 days.
Miller says that access to the records had been refused up to this point due to third-party legal obligations.
In addition, Miller says the government will begin reviewing other documentations which has been withheld on legal grounds in the past.
Miller also spoke on a controversial 2015 decision which let the Catholic Church of the hook for tens of millions in settlements.
He says that the 2015 deal struck to free the Church of their obligations was put in motion by the previous Harper government.
According to Miller, no one in this government new of or had a hand in the release agreement which went out just days before the Liberals took office.
