In the midst of the Covid pandemic, one Private Member’s Bill introduced in Ottawa yesterday looks to tackle another pandemic.
NDP MP Gord Johns introduced a Bill in the House yesterday which looks to quell the overdose crisis across the country.
If passed, the Bill would decriminalize personal use drug possession, provide criminal record expungement, lower the barriers to access safe supplies, and expand access to treatment, harm reduction, and recovery sites.
Multiple BC politicians on both the municipal and provincial levels have already called for the Federal government to take action, though little has been done.
BC in the midst of its worst year on record, in terms of illicit overdose deaths, registering 1,782, with two months still unaccounted for.
