A bylaw which will define how votes are counted in elections in the District of Kitimat moving forward was the topic of heated debate last night.
District Councillors voted last night on whether or not to give three readings to a bylaw which has spurred weeks of debate.
That bylaw would allow for an automated vote counting system to be used to tabulate votes on election night.
Some councillors stood opposed to the idea of a machine counting the votes, as opposed to a human, and denounced the lack of 3rd party scrutiny.
Councillor Feldhoff went as far as to put a motion on the table to add a requirement for post-count human verification.
But, that amendment was voted down, and eventually, Councillors decided to give the bylaw its first three readings, by a vote of 4 to 2.
