Ottawa is expanding their definition of what a lockdown is, in order for Canadians to access supports offered in a new Bill.
Last week, Parliament voted to pass Bill C-2, which introduced a slew of new pandemic supports.
However, until today, no one could access those supports, because by definition, we weren’t in a lockdown.
Today, the Federal government announced they were widening that definition in order to make those supports available.
Employees in regions under business capacity restrictions of 50 percent or more, who have lost more than half their income, now qualify for the Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit.
That benefit will pay 300 dollars per week to qualifying Canadians.
In addition, employers in areas with similar capacity restrictions who have current-month revenue declines of at least 25 percent can apply for the Local Lockdown Program.
That program grants wage subsidies of between 25 and 75 percent.
These new programs are retroactive to December 19th, and will remain in place until February 12th.
