In a surprising announcement, Prince Rupert’s mayor Lee Brain let it be known in a post on his Facebook page that he would not be running for re-election in this October’s municipal election.
Brain said it was a tough decision to make but he is now hoping to spend more time with his 10 month old daughter Hailey.
Brain was elected back in 2014 as the youngest mayor in the town’s history and will have served two 4 year terms when his tenure ends.
Brain has been credited with stabilizing Prince Rupert financially since the town was nearly bankrupt when he was first elected and he also helped create the 2030 Rupert plan.
