Emergency Health Services responded to nearly 100 overdose calls per day in BC last year.
That means in total, first responders attended 35,525 overdose related calls in 2021.
That represents the most ever recorded over a one year span, and a 31 percent increase in calls compared to the previous year.
Northern Health saw the fewest calls of any Health Authority with 2,414, but that was still a 16 percent increase over 2020.
Interior Health saw a 29 percent jump in cases, registering 5,417 in 2021.
On the year, Terrace saw 259 calls, up 25 percent from 2020, Prince Rupert saw 71, Kitimat 33, and Smithers 42.
Quesnel saw the biggest drop in calls in the entire province, recording 157 calls, representing a 25 percent decrease.
