The weather was pretty frigid over the past few weeks and while those conditions have gone away for now, the city of Terrace is looking at setting up a warming centre for when the next arctic outflow occurs.
Much like the city did in the summer when the heat wave descended and a cooling centre was set up at the sportsplex, the same scenario would be employed to keep homeless residents out of the next deep freeze.
While the province expands shelters over the winter, they have hours during which residents must be out for the day and the warming centre would help fill that gap.
Stay tuned for more information on the city’s next move.
