A First Nation on BC’s Central Coast has declared a local state of emergency due to the rapid spread of Covid in the community.
Put in place by the Nuxalk Nation on Wednesday, the state of emergency will last until at least February 1st.
Over the span of a couple of days earlier this week, the Nation saw their cases climb from the low single digits to 30 cases.
Until the order expires, the Nation will be closed to visitors, and to Nuxalk members aged 12 and up living outside the Bella Coola Valley who are not yet fully vaccinated.
They are also recommending 7 days of self-isolation for those planning to leave the community who are not yet fully vaccinated.
