Rio Tinto has been fined nearly 680,000 dollars after being warned in the past over harmful air contaminants.
An inspection by WorksafeBC from last month revealed that a prior order to better control airborne dust, was not followed.
Said dust can contain toxic substances, which can be harmful to workers if over-exposed.
According to the inspection, pressurized air was used to clean equipment, which kicked up a lot of dust, with no way to adequately remove it.
Meanwhile, Rio Tinto says an October inspection found their control measures to be adequate and compliant, and that they have not yet received the full report from Worksafe BC.
