An affordable housing project in Kitimat took another step towards fruition, after its bylaw received 3rd reading last night.
During last night’s regular meeting, District Councillors gave third reading to a housing bylaw, and agreed to sign the related agreement.
That agreement looks to allow the building of up to 40 new, purpose-built, affordable housing units.
To be operated by the Tamatik Status of Women Assocation, the project would be built on the front portion of 461 Qautsino Boulevard.
It aims to see 20 long-term affordable units, 12 second stage housing units for women and children, and up to 18 transition housing beds.
Funding for the project will come from the Affordable Housing Fund, and will total 500,000 dollars.
Now, all the long anticipated project needs to move forward is to receive final adoption, which will happen at an upcoming council meeting to be announced.
