Gyms and fitness centres across BC are set to open their doors again following today’s revision of Provincial Health Orders.
Beginning on January 20th, exercise facilities will start re-opening, with a few restrictions in place.
Patrons must provide proof of vaccination and remain masked at all times, except while actively working out, staff and trainers must be masked at all times.
Capacity will be limited to a maximum of 25 people, allowing at least 7 square metres between each patron, whether alone or in a group.
All other provincial orders remain unchanged, and will stay in place until February 16th at the earliest.
That includes keeping bars and night clubs closed, and limits of 50 percent of seated capacity for all venues provincewide.
In addition, no changes are being made to the vaccine card mandate.
Dr Bonnie Henry also clarified an order sent out yesterday requiring school boards to report staff vaccination status to Medical Health Officers.
She says the order will help school districts develop mandates, and help MHOs better determine which schools are most at risk for an outbreak.
According to Dr Henry, the plan has been in the works for months, despite the BC Teachers’ Federation saying the order caught them by surprise.
