Droves of truckers are headed from the west coast to Ottawa in an effort to challenge newly installed vaccination mandates.
On January 15th, new mandates took effect requiring all truckers to be vaccinated in order to cross the Canada- US border without delay.
Trucks began gathering for the trek on Saturday as far west as Prince Rupert and Vancouver Island.
They met in Prince George and Vancouver before departing for Alberta yesterday morning.
In total, more than 2.5 million dollars has been raised via an online GoFundMe campaign for the 5,000 km display, which organizers have titled the “Freedom Rally”.
While the effort drew hefty support online, the Canadian Trucking Alliance was not among those supporters.
They issued a statement Saturday denouncing the protest, saying the actions interfere with public safety and disrupt the motoring public and commerce.
