Rodents are stirring in Prince Rupert this winter, but not of the mouse variety.
Over the past week, City staff have received numerous complaints of rats in the community as the snow begins to thaw.
To help nip the problem in the bud, they are recommending a few steps for residents to take to dissuade the rodents.
Clean dog waste, food waste, and rotting plants from your gardens and yards, ensure garbage is well secured inside a bin, keep grass short once the snow is gone, and ensure traps, poison, and other devices are kept well out of the reach of children.
Abundance of food sources is the number one attractant for unwanted pests.
