During a news conference earlier today, Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said the number of people going to the hospital for COVID-19 appears to be peaking.
Henry says pandemic related hospitalizations reached a record high yesterday with one-thousand-and-54, which was the first time hospital COVID cases went over 1,000 in BC.
More than 90 percent of the 706 people admitted to hospitals over the past week have been determined to be infected with the omicron variant.
However, hospital patients with the Omicron variant are going home significantly quicker compared to those who were infected with the Delta strain.
Henry also said that this peak of hospitalizations coming just weeks after new confirmed cases of COVID-19 began dropping is what the province expected to happen, after looking at modelling that predicted the path the pandemic would take.
