Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach sent out a letter today reiterating the NDP’s call for Canada to strengthen its health care system.
Bachrach says the federal government needs to improve the health care system to adequately meet the needs of all Canadians.
In the letter, Bachrach stated the government is capable of doing more to support health care workers.
According to the NDP, an increase to the health care transfer would allow for the hiring of additional qualified health care workers, as well as make more hospital beds available.
NDP MLA Jennifer Rice also joined Bachrach, and Premier John Horgan in calling for an increase in Ottawa’s contribution to funding.
She says an increase can help address the unique challenges face in rural and remote communities.
Over the past several decades, the Federal contribution to health care transfers has slowly dropped from 50 percent to today’s rate of 22 percent, with the province providing the remainder.
