Six Northern communities are among 50 receiving new provincial funding to support tourism infrastructure development.
In Smithers, 418,000 dollars will go towards the creation of a Winter Sports Event Centre at Hudson Bay Mountain Resort, overseen by the Smithers Ski Club.
Just over 313,000 will help the Doig River First Nation develop an amphitheatre and interpretive trails, as well as renovations at the Tse’k’wa Heritage and Cultural Centre.
Upgrades, clean-up, and repairs will be undertaken at Sunset Park in Port Clements thanks to just under 270,000 dollars in funding.
At the Nisga’a Village of Gitwinksihlkw , 400,000 will fund phase two of River Walk & Lava Bed Trail and Saasak’ Hill Trails systems.
In Prince George, the David Douglas Botanical Garden will see the development of themed gardens, and construction of a visitor centre, parking lot, and more thanks to 700,000 in funding.
And the Old Massett Village Council gets just under 800,000 dollars for the expansion of the Hiellen Longhouse Village, including road construction, water system development, and more.
