Newly introduced legislation will help increase protection for diverse wildlife habitats, wetlands, and parks across BC.
Through amendments to the Protected Areas Act, a number of Provincial Parks are having their protected areas expanded.
Naikoon Park on Haida Gwaii will see 123 hectares added to protect wetlands and sand dunes.
Near Chetwynd, Hole-in-the-Wall Park will see an extra 14 hectares of protected land to preserve a culturally significant stream at the base of the cliff.
In addition, boundary modifications are being made to Burnt Cabin Ecological Reserve, northeast of Telkwa, and Omineca Park, west of Mackenzie, both to to correct administrative errors and address safety issues.
A number of other parks in the South are also covered under the new additions.
