Two of Canada’s five recognized National Indigenous Organizations were left off the attendance list for today’s justice meeting.
Canada’s Minister of Justice David Lametti met with federal and provincial ministers, as well as representatives from the other three organizations today.
But, both the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples and the Native Women’s Association of Canada, were not invited.
It is expected that the meetings will cover the recently announced Indigenous Justice Program, as well as policing.
According to the CAP, leaving them out of the meeting actively excludes off-reserve Indigenous people from having a voice and a seat at the table.
They say that, by excluding them, the needs of their constituents are not being considered, and that the approach reduces the likelihood of accessibility to the program’s services.
