Some British Columbians will soon be able to acquire Covid rapid tests free of charge at their local pharmacies.
This week, the province will begin distributing tests to community pharmacies to make tests more accessible to the general public.
Beginning on Friday, pharmacies with available supply will begin distributing boxes of five tests each to residents aged 70 or older.
According to the province, the vaccine will become available to younger age groups rapidly as new supplies come in.
Residents will only be able to pick up one free test kit per 28 day period, when they present their BC Services Card at the pharmacy.
So far 865,000 tests have been pre-positioned for order by community pharmacies.
Currently, the province has received a total of just over 22 million tests, and are expecting another 12 million in the next four weeks.
Last week, the province announced that similar kits of 5 take-home tests would be made available to K to 12 students showing symptoms.
