On Tuesday, as part of Budget 2022, the province announced 2.1 billion dollars to help prevent, and protect communities from climate-related disasters.
Of that funding, 145 million was earmarked, in part, to shift the Wildfire Service from a Seasonal to a year-round endeavour.
This will help the province shift from a reactive to a proactive model when it comes to managing wildfire risks.
With the funding, both the Wildfire Service and Emergency Management BC will be able to add capacity and equipment.
Combined with the year-round service model, this will allow the completion of more fire mitigation covering a larger area, and support community Fire Smart initiatives.
In addition, over the next 3 years, a further 98 million dollars will be invested in maintaining forest service roads, and access to them.
