British Columbia is looking to close the largest gender pay gap in the country.
Today, in honour of International Women’s Day, the province announced plans to introduce pay transparency legislation.
Currently, women working in British Columbia make 18.6 percent less than men, the largest pay gap among all provinces.
Additionally, BC is one of four provinces to not have some form of pay transparency legislation already in place.
Last year, Canada introduced the Pay Equity Act, ensuring equal pay in federally regulated workplaces.
According to the province’s announcement, consultations set to begin this spring, will define how the legislation takes shape.
