A large commercial development proposed for Kitimat is moving forward, after checking a few more bureaucratic check boxes.
Proposed for a sub-divided lot at 36 Highway 37, the development would feature a gas bar, restaurant, convenience store, commercial unit, and parking lot.
Early last month, District Council voted to send two project permitting matters to the Advisory Planning Commission for approval.
During last night’s regular meeting, those matters made their way back to council, who opted to issue both development and variance permits.
Under the permit, the developer will construct a 4-pump gas bar and convenience store, a McDonald’s restaurant with drive-thru, and a two unit commercial unit at the site, just south of the Forest Avenue intersection.
Variances were issued to allow for reductions to the amount and size of parking stalls, additional lot entrances, and an additional sign.
In addition, some changes were made after the initial presentation to council to incorporate their suggestion of a bike lane, additional sidewalks, and covered bike racks.
If a building permit is not issued within two years time, the development permit will expire.
