Last year was a rough one for the tourism industry, but the District of Kitimat is looking to bounce back strong this year.
In 2021, the District saw just 453 total tourist visits, down from 1,677 in 2020, and 2,874 in 2019.
While the pandemic can be blamed for much of that drop-off, the Chamber of Commerce took the opportunity to make some upgrades.
With the completion of their accessibility project, the Visitor Centre now features elevator access to all floors, a large fully-accessible bathroom, covered wheelchair ramp, and button-activated front door.
They have also acquired some new rental gear, adding two inflatable kayaks, and two inflatable stand-up paddle boards, to the collection.
In addition, the new Kitimat Bound website has been launched, where visitors can now find a real-time live chat feature, tourism guide, and business directory.
