Food trucks are set to take over a section of Prince Rupert, and they’re bringing washrooms with them.
After some logistical delays, Prince Rupert’s new Eat Street location at the corner of 3rd Avenue and 7th Street is now open for business.
In addition, an all-weather outdoor washroom facility, also known as an Urbaloo, has also been constructed at the site.
The project was made possible thanks to a partnership between the Prince Rupert Aboriginal Community Services Society and the City.
Initially, the outdoor washroom idea was pitched to the City by the Society as a way to support those experiencing homelessness in the downtown.
With the City already looking in to providing a dedicated space for food trucks, they decided to take advantage of the opportunity by combining the projects.
A total of $220,000 in federal grant funding was provided for the washroom portion of the project, specifically to support those experiencing homelessness.
