Come June, British Columbia will have the highest minimum wage of any jurisdiction in Canada.
Beginning on June 1st, the provincial minimum wage will increase from the current $15.20 to $15.65 an hour.
In 2020, the province committed not only to raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour, but also to tie future increases to inflation.
In doing so, BC became the first province in Canada to officially link the two.
In 2021, BC’s inflation rate was 2.8 percent, a number that will also be applied to live-in camp leader, live-in support worker, and resident caretaker minimum wages.
In addition, minimum piece rates for hand harvesting of 15 different crops will also go up by 2.8 percent, come 2023.
Since 2017, BC’s minimum wage has gone up from $11.35, when it was one of the lowest in the country.
