Residents of the Terrace area could see a full slate of Riverboat Days events this summer, for the first time since 2019.
Covid forced the cancellation of the event in 2020, and prompted a smaller celebration than usual last year.
Riverboat days is the largest annual community festival in the northwest, and was averaging between 50 and 70 events in the years prior to the pandemic.
At yesterday’s city council meeting, the Riverboat Days Society asked council for a letter of support to apply for the funding to put on a full event.
Council granted the request, allowing them to apply for their usual $2,500 festivals grant from the NDIT.
But, with the Legion unable to organize this year’s parade, and volunteer numbers dropping, the Society is unsure whether the parade will go ahead.
They are attempting to find solutions to allow it to run, but cannot take on the added workload on their own.
While no date was announced, Riverboat Days usually runs at the end of July, stretching in to August.
