Eight northern communities will split over $905,000 from the most recent distribution of Norther Development Initiative Trust grant funds.
Each of the projects supported through the Northern Healthy Communities stream help to strengthen social and emergency services in communities experiencing rapid growth.
A total of $200,000 will be split evenly between two Thornhill projects: the sewer system expansion, and a major zoning and bylaw update, the first since 1983.
Those projects will also benefit from $97,000 going toward an incremental development services staffing increase at the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine.
Another $100,000 will go to the Witset First Nation to develop an Industry and Lands Engagement Program.
Smithers will see $14,000 invested to install a solar array to help power their community radio and emergency broadcast systems.
$300,000 will see a Community Plaza Training and Entertainment Centre built in Houston.
Vanderhoof gets $100,000 to hire a Director of Community Services, and Moberly Lake will see just under $100,000 for the development of a workforce transition toolkit.
