Premier John Horgan issued his disappointment yesterday at American actors choosing to weigh in on BC politics.
Horgan was responding to questions about a digital press conference organized by the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs opposed to the Coastal GasLink pipeline project.
That conference saw the Chiefs, along with a slate of more than 65 celebrities, headlined by Mark Ruffalo, call for the Royal Bank of Canada to divest in the project.
Horgan mentioned Ruffalo by name in his comments, saying he’s not opposed to people from all walks of life issuing their opinions.
However, he did call out Ruffalo for “taking shots from the sidelines” without understanding the project’s full impact on Indigenous people, and the climate.
Horgan went on to say how disappointed he is when celebrities “stop doing their trade and start giving practical advice to people,” especially those who do not live in BC.
In response, Ruffalo said he was saddened that Horgan “doesn’t like hearing from people” about things like climate change and Indigenous rights, no matter their trade.
