A new collaborative effort between the District of Kitimat and Haisla Nation will seek to form an equitable partnership between the pair.
Today, Councils from the two groups announced they would be jointly joining the Community Economic Development Initiative, or CEDI.
CEDI seeks to support First Nations and neighbouring municipalities as they build respectful partnerships, and develop long-term plans for joint economic development and land use.
Through the program, the groups will benefit from CEDI facilitated monthly meetings, bi-annual workshops, and activities and tools which advance relationship and capacity building.
Kitimat and the Haisla are among eight similar partnerships that have announced their participation in the 2022-2024 program, which is delivered jointly between CEDI, the Council for the Advancement of Native Development Officers, and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
