Skeena- Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach has tabled a petition in Ottawa calling for the creation of a national public bus service.
Last week, Bachrach, who is also NDP transport critic, hosted a virtual townhall to discuss the impacts of Greyhound’s cancellation on the northwest.
Over 100 individuals joined that townhall to share stories and call for a safe, affordable, accessible, and integrated passenger rail and bus service.
In his petition, Bachrach highlights the importance of a service in connecting rural and remote communities, as well as reducing transportation climate impacts.
He also noted that the creation of a bus service connecting northern communities would support the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls’ Calls for Justice.
Bachrach was joined at the initial townhall by Carrier-Sekani Family Services executive Mary Teegee.
