BC Highway Patrol in Smithers ended up seizing $100,000 in presumably legal cash, after stopping a vehicle for speeding.
A man and woman from Alberta had been travelling on Highway 16, west of the Kitwanga junction, yesterday, when they were pulled over for speeding.
Upon pulling the vehicle over, the officer began to believe that the pair was under the influence of a controlled substance.
A search of the vehicle, which followed the occupants’ arrest, revealed several cell phones, 80 grams of cannabis, and a plastic bag filled with $100,000 worth of bills.
Both suspects were arrested, though the female passenger was released on an Appearance Notice.
The male driver, however, was given tickets for speeding, and operating a vehicle under the influence of cannabis.
He was also served an appearance notice in relation to proposed criminal charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
