An injection of federal funding will allow the Skeetchestn First Nation to build a traditional pit home and museum facility.
Today, Ottawa committed a total of $825,000 to support the construction of the new facility on the Nation’s territory near Savona.
Upon completion, the project will create a space for safe, meaningful, access to to language and culture to the community.
It will provide barrier-free access to cultural services for Indigenous women, girls, and 2 spirit and LGBTQ+ people on the territory.
Through that, Ottawa aims to further the call for such spaces made in the Final Report of the National Inquiry in to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
