Pam Spooner has become the first person in BC to officially hold the newly created title of Indigenous Assistant Superintendent.
Prince George School District 57 appointed Spooner as the inaugural holder of the position yesterday, giving her a seat at the senior management table.
Spooner will report directly to the Superintendent, focusing specifically on Indigenous education.
For the past 3 years, Spooner has filled to role of director of the District’s Indigenous Education Department, a title which she was also the first to hold.
Spooner is Gitxsan, with Wet’suwet’en ancestory, and looks to bring a stronger Indigenous Voice to the table.
She has filled numerous roles in education over her career, including vice-principal roles at both the elementary and secondary levels.
