Next week is Tsunami Preparedness Week, and to honour that, the City of Prince Rupert is sharing some tips, and inviting residents to join a contest.
For Prince Rupert residents, the best course of action during a tsunami warning is to head to an elevated area, away from the waterfront.
With the exception of residences on Beach Place or Walter Street, all residential areas in the City are elevated enough to be considered high-ground.
That means that, for most, the safest place to find high-ground is in your own homes.
But, the City is also providing a list of tsunami-safe locations, including: the corner of Dry Dock Road and 6th Avenue East, the corner of Bill Murray Drive and Stiles Place, and the emergency muster station at the Rec Complex.
Interested residents can also participate in a selfie contest running the duration of next week, in collaboration with PreparedBC.
To participate, for a chance at one of 47 prizes, share a selfie of yourself at a tsunami-safe location on social media, with #HighGroundSelfie22, and tag @PreparedBC.
Remember, that as long as you don’t live on Beach Place or Walter Street, high ground in your own home counts as a tsunami-safe location.
If you include the hashtag #princeruperthgh in your post, you will also have a shot at more prizes.
